And I'm not talking about Pepper, my family's 13 year old cocker spaniel, but MY dog, Stella. She's only five years old, and today the vet officially diagnosed her with MMM- masticatory muscle myositis, which basically means that she drools a lot, the muscles in her jaws are inflamed so she can't chew properly, her eyes are bloodshot and puffy, and she becomes extremely lethargic. She has been prescribed steroids and some other medication; however, the vet told us that this disease is for life, and it's only going to get worse. He said that she will have to be on this medication for the rest of her life, and eventually the MMM will get bad enough to where the medication will no longer be effective and we will have to put her down. So, while I am happy that I will have her around for a few more years, I hate that there's a deadline on it, quite literally. I guess I never imagined that Pepper would outlive Stella.
